What to know about Chemical Peels

chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother, brighter and clearer.

Types

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peels (AHAs)
Are natural occuring acids such as glycolic, lactic, citric, malic, tartaric etc Each are derived from nature such as sugar cane, sour milk, citrus fruits etc
These are superficial peels to help tarded minor imperfections such as dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. They give a vibrancy and brightness to the skin.
They may cause a stinging, milkd redness and irritation and dryness.

Jessner Peels
These peels are a combination of 14% salicylcic acid, lactic acid and resorcinol. They are used to break down the skin further than an AHA peel, to eliminate acne, target fine lines and wrinkles, and lift pigmentation.
It is difficult to "overpeel" the skin due to mild percentages, but will give a noticeable result.
Visible peeling will occur in 3-4 days after the peel was performed.

Retinoic Acid Peel
This is a deeper peel than Jesser and AHA. It is only performed in a Physicians office to help remove acne scars, lift deeper pigmentation and rejuvenate the skin. It is usually performed in conjunction with a Jessner peel in the same appointment.
Peeling occurs in about 3 days following the treatment. For more dramatic changes to the skin, multiple treatments are required.

Trichloroacetic Acid Peels (TCA)
An intermediate to deep peel, ranging in percentage of 20-50%. They are used to smooth out fine surface wrinkles, remove superficial blemishes, correct skin pigmentation. Multiple treatments may be required. Peeling occurs on the 3rd day post treatment.

Guelph Medical Laser offers all 4 of these peels! Book your consultation know to figure out which one is best for your skin type and concerns!

Coming soon: PRP Facial (Vampire Facelift)

Our NEW PRP facial (or Vampire Facelift) is coming soon!!!

Have you heard of PRP? Platelet rich plasma (PRP) extracts of your own blood that contains three to five times more platelets, growth factors, and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. It has been used medically for years to accelerate wound healing; repair tendon, ligament and joint damage; heal diabetic ulcers; and help regrow muscle and bone. When PRP is placed back into the skin by injection or micro-needling, it initiates a localized stem cell response. Over the weeks and months following treatment, this stem cell response recruits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts replace tissue that has been damaged or lost through the ageing process with healthy skin that looks refreshed and rejuvenated.

This new PRP facial will consist of;
- Extracting a vile of blood
- Running it through the centevuse to extract the platelets
- Painting the platlet solution onto the skin
- Using micro-needling to open the skins surface to increase the penetration of the platlets

We are so excited to be able to restore health, brightness, and life back to your skin! If you are looking for a refreshed, rejuvenated and youthful appearance without looking frozen or over-plumped, without aggressive surgery, chemicals or toxins, then PRP is what you are looking for.

Eyes: Dark circles, puffiness and more.

They say the Eyes are the window to the soul. So what do our withered, tired eyes say about us?

Have you seen the new way to rejuvenate your eyes! Dr. Lamont has been injecting "Redensity" facial filler under the eyes and we have seen amazing results.
By injecting the filler, it can give back the loss of volume that causes the hollow look; and it reduces the appearance of "dark circles" which can be caused by vascular tissue becoming more prominent as we lose the fat volume under our eyes.

The pictures speak for themselves...

Book your appointment now with Dr. Lamont, Tanya or Sylvia to improve your eyes! Let everyone see the true you, through youthful and beautiful eyes!  519-837-1897

Keratosis Pilaris : "goosebumps" or "chicken skin"

Goosebumps can be fun.. when you're watching a scary movie, anxiously awaiting the news of a new baby, or expressing feelings to a loved one. They are NOT  fun when they are permanent and never go away.

This common condition is called Keratosis Pilaris, characterized by small rough red bumps usually on the arms or thighs.  It's not actually Goosebumps or chicken skin, but feels very similar to them. It is an over production of keratin (skin) cells over the sebaceous (oil) glands.

These pesky bumps, that affect nearly 50% of the popular, are usually the cause of genetics; especially to those with history of hay fever, seasonal allergies, eczema or asthma. The cold and humid temperatures of Canada can attribute to flare up as well.

Helpful tips :

Exfoliating. Avoid aggressive scrubbing that can irritate and cause more inflammation. A gentle manual exfoliation can help lift dead skin and open the pores. A chemical exfoliation, such as Retinol, can exfoliate deeper and allow the growth of new healthier skin cells.

Humidifier: Place a humidifier in your bedroom to avoid flare ups. A water softener will also help with this to soften the skin cells and avoid build up of skin cells.

Product Recommendations :

ZO Exfoliating Polish : uses ultra fine magnesium crystals to manual exfoliate dead skin, open up pores and lift dirt and debris. Gives a smoother, cleaner and toned complexion

ZO Radical Night Repair : contains 1% Retional (Vitamin A) stimulates new cell activity and collagen formation. Smoothes out uneven texture, produces fresh skin cells, promotes healthy cell production.
